Living Healthy | Air Quality Management Pollution Series
How do you know if it is safe to inhale the air you breathe every day? How polluted is the city that you live in?
Did you know that certain cities in the U.S. have days and weeks of the year when you really shouldn’t be active outside? This is particularly important for seniors, young children, people with asthma, and/or people who have lung and/or heart issues.
The great news is, you can help manage how you handle unclean air, even if you live in a very polluted city. The first step is knowing what your situation is.
For every city in the U.S., you can find out what the air quality is on any given day just as easy as you can find out what the weather is. This is known as the Air Quality Index.

Healthy Breakfast- Healthy Desserts -Gluten Free Baking – Dairy Free Baking- Chocolate Scones
My little boy Max is now 4 years old and he just LOVES to bake healthy treats with his mommy.
We talk about what we are putting into each recipe, and he often makes suggestions to “add more cinnamon,” or “another egg.” We make a mess, have a lot of fun, and together we experiment making new recipes.
The other day, Max came running down the stairs in the morning right after he woke up announcing that he wanted to bake chocolate scones for “Shoo Shoo,”…… who apparently was turning either 3…… or 5 …. , my son wasn’t exactly sure.
Although the news of Shoo Shoo’s birthday was a suprise to me, I was delighted to bake a sweet treat for him and off we went to create our chocolate scone recipe together.
With everything that mom’s have to do, it is easy to forget that we are growing little beings.
Do you have a little girl who just LOVES princesses? Has your princes loving little girl asked you to have a “princess cake” at her next birthday party?
For any “health conscious mommy” birthday parties are some of the most challenging times; and conflicting feelings can be overwhelming.
After all if you go to most stores and order a “princess cake,” you will receive a brightly COVERED, beautiful cake with a rainbow of food dyes on them.
Please note, this is the SAME food coloring that is banned for sale in Europe and is believed to create attention behavior problems in kids.
In addition, these brightly colored cakes have no whole grains in them (there is not anything to counteract the sugar) and they are loaded with white sugar making your entire party climb the walls and come crashing down irritably an hour later. Sound fun? Read More…
Flax seed is an amazingly healthy food. Only 2 teaspoons a day can make a huge difference in your family’s health.
Flax seed is quite easy to add into to your diet. Unlike wheat germ which can leave an “after taste,” ground flax seed barely has any taste when added to foods. (If it does have a sour taste you should throw it out, as it has gone rancid.)
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
Thank you for reading my blog over the past year and I hope you have a wonderful holiday season. Wishing you and your family happiness and health into the New Year!
This article is about the fact that we have many holiday rituals in our society that are geared around enjoying the company of others eating brightly colored candies and sweets. One of these fun rituals is to decorate gingerbread men with frosting and candy.
