According to the new USDA dietary guidelines for Americans that was released at the end of 2010, only 5% of Americans are actually eating the recommended  48 grams of whole grains per day. In addition, according the the Whole Grains Council, 40% of people eat NO whole grains at all during the day! 

Perhaps the reason why people are not eating 48 grams of whole grains is they don’t know how this translates into REAL FOOD!

The new dietary whole grain recommendation is a minimum amount of whole grains that was recommended by the Department of Agriculture and the US Department of Health and Human Services, yet few of us are actually eating this bare essential amount.
