Health News-Food Dyes- March 30,2011

Today the Food and Drug Advisory committee is beginning their research on the behavioral affects that food dyes have on kids. This investigation came as a result of  the mounting evidence that food coloring has negative affects on children’s behavior and attention span.

Could it be that sugary processed foods have been solely blamed for kids being hyperactive, when in actuality it is the combination of white sugar and artificial food dyes that are making kids bounce off the walls?

Online PR News – March 12-2011- It was announced that Stevia, a natural calorie free sweetener that was initially approved to be used in foods in France back in 2008,  has been granted the first international certification for safety. This certification could have significant impact on the future sales of Stevia. More and more people are interested in finding healthy, natural sweeteners like Stevia.

Wednesday March 15, 2010- This weekend the Shanghai Daily reported news that BPA, otherwise known as Bis-phenol A, is now banned from in anything that children could either drink out of, or eat from. According to a recent article in the Mother Nature Network, last week a European ban on BPA went into effect when the EU joined other countries such as Canada and the United Arab Emirates in banning BPA from children’s products.

March 11, 2011- San Francisco Chronicle- Cameron Scott  from “The Thin Green Line,” reported a very interesting story about a government robot testing for safety of additives. According Scott’s article,  of the 80,000 plus  chemicals and  that are found in drugs, foods and consumer products, a measly  13 percent of them are tested for safety in the United States. March 11, 2011-Edmonton Journal-If you are  a parent who works hard to feed your kids healthy foods, than you know the sheer frustration of not having your school co-operate with your plans. A recent article in the Edmonton Journal outlined that schools often times have programs that are completely opposite of what the parents are trying to accomplish regarding healthy eating for their kids.
